The Grand Duchy of Luxembourg has a population of 485,000 and 122,000 daily commuters. Do not let its relatively small size fool you. Thanks to its central European location and influx of foreigners, the capital - Luxembourg City - is extremely cosmopolitan with +61% foreigners of 162 nationalities. Quality of life is very high. The city boasts an inordinate number of excellent quality restaurants, bars and tourist sites (the Philharmonie, the new Museum of Modern Art ) and almost everything in the capital is practically within walking distance.
Luxembourg City is the trend setting capital of the "greater region" with a population of 11,200,000. The beautiful city, with its deep green valleys and fortress remnants is listed by Unesco as a World Heritage site. It offers the best combination of the modern and the historic. Luxembourg has a great nightlife and residents and tourists alike can enjoy an outstanding range of excellent wines and local beers (of which Luxembourgers are justifiably proud). However, sometimes the nightlife can appear "hidden" to tourists so you need to know where to go. For example the area known as "the Grund", with its cobble stoned streets and medieval facades, boasts a thriving live music scene (primarily blues and jazz). To get the most out of your visit make sure you check a guide or look at some of the tourist web sites in advance to plan your trip. Once you discover where the hot spots are you can dine in elegance or dance to house music until dawn, or do just about whatever tickles your fancy.
