Colophon2007 - Newsletter 01 - 19.07.2005

This first issue of the Colophon2007-newsletter was sent to 560 decision-makers from 310 magazines worldwide.

Colophon 2007 is an on-going project building a database of magazines and a network of organizations and people from all over the world. The database includes factsheets, covers, interviews and information for creatives, journalists, publishers and advertisers.

The website colophon2007.com will be launched during CMYK - international independent magazine culture festival in Barcelona from 21 - 23.07.2005.

You are now viewing a pre-version of the website. This newsletter is meant as a call for entries, an invitation to complete your factsheet, add covers, publish more data about your magazine, etc.

Colophon2007 will gather entries before being launched with an international conference in collaboration with the Casino Luxembourg - Forum d'Art Contemporain from March 9 - 11th 2007. At the same time the Colophon 2007 book will be published.

Colophon 2007 is not only an invaluable resource for everyone involved in magazine creation and publishing but it is a meeting point where current practice meets future trends.

HOW DO THE UPDATES WORK?

Colophon2007 is a 100% free service. Please upload as much content as you can: complete fact sheets, history, information about advertising contacts and about subscription contacts (please, do not use a LINK, but fill in text). Visitors to our site very much appreciate discovering from each magazine a large number of covers, interviews with the "makers", spreadpages, etc

First send us a mail. You will receive your personal ID and password in order to: access the database, start publishing and complete or change data whenever you wish.

Important notice: No content will be published automatically - our team will need from 6 to 72 hours to publish your content.

INTERVIEW

Pure Pleasure

Meeting with Kimberly Lloyd, co-founder of the collectible "M Publication" for a discussion on the international scene for independent magazines, the CMYK festival in Barcelona, and how to succeed in four editions only to go on to create an international reference point for editions of collectors' magazines.

Mike Koedinger: M Publication is a magazine out of the commonplace. 224 pages packed full of surprises: a dozen different papers are used like a panoply of printing techniques (Blindstamping, hot foil stamping, punching, UV varnishing ...). The editions are monothematic (Power, Luxury, Surprise, Germany) and the collaborators are international. Somewhere between a book and a collector's item, all the same you prefer to regard it as a magazine. Why? And how would you like "M" to be presented?

Kimberly Lloyd: If you take a 100 dollar note in your hand, you won’t look at it and throw it away, right? It has value and you get some kind of personal profit out of it. I always want to make a piece of paper worth 100 dollars at least. The question was, how I could I make this physically possible? What information would I put on that piece of paper or what materials will it consist of to make it valuable for my taste? Then I learned that publishing is similar to cooking.

INTERNATIONAL MAGAZINE IMPORT TO LUXEMBOURG

In order to promote international magazines to the Luxembourg audience, we do import magazines with our partner Hans Fellner from Fellner Art Books. We are speaking about little quantities (hey, Luxembourg’s population is less than 600.000 including 115.000 daily commuters, and it’s ONE bookstore) but it’s one more country on your distribution list. Please send us a mail to IMPORT@COLOPHON2007.COM.
